System of systems comprises interacting, heterogeneous, autonomous components with incomplete information about their inner states, and about the surrounding environment. Many interactions are often not rigorously defined, and change dynamically. System of systems usually exhibits emergent behavior that cannot be predicted by analyzing static properties of the components, and is not always permissible. This paper suggests that the designer can improve system's behavior by substituting (part of) regular interactions with smart mediated interactions that bolster up shared situation awareness of the system's components and thus strengthens system's capability to monitor and partially control its emergent behavior. This paper discusses smart mediated interactions that focus on awareness of temporal features and on estimates of spatial location of the components. Interactions are assembled into proactive middleware that forms a backbone of system of systems.

This survey aims to provide a comprehensive status of recent and current research on context-based Information Fusion (IF) systems, tracing back the roots of the original thinking behind the development of the concept of ''context''. It shows how its fortune in the distributed computing world eventually per-meated in the world of IF, discussing the current strategies and techniques, and hinting possible future trends. IF processes can represent context at different levels (structural and physical constraints of the scenario, a priori known operational rules between entities and environment, dynamic relationships modelled to interpret the system output, etc.). In addition to the survey, several novel context exploita-tion dynamics and architectural aspects peculiar to the fusion domain are presented and discussed.

Considering fast growth of internet and related network infrastructures, it is important to detect the intrusion and respond to it in a timely manner. Network intrusion can make vital information systems and communication networks inaccessible and imposes high cost of communication infrastructures. In order to gain high degrees of success in providing services, current and future generation of networking and internet technologies, require a set of tools to analyze the network and to detect the threats and intrusion in network. Due to main weakness in terms of high rate of false alarms and low accuracy of detection, by which cyber space detection and identification systems are opposed, fusion theory in decision level provides a new method for data analysis from multiple nodes in order to increase the possibility of intrusion detection through improving pattern recognition. This paper aims to present a novel method of fusion in decision level based on complex event processing and show how this method would be successful in exposing cyber threats for timely response.
