Analysing the factors driving the population size and activities of soil microorganisms is important for understanding the soil ecosystem’s structure and functioning. For this purpose, the soil enzymes are used as an indicator of soil microbial activity and soil fertility. Although there are many studies on the distribution and activities of various soil enzymes in soils under monoculture or crop alternation conditions, there are only few studies examining the ecological relationship in natural ecosystems, especially by using enzymes. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of different land uses on the catalase enzyme activity in soil. For this purpose, the catalase enzyme activities in soil samples taken from 0-5cm and 5-10cm depths in agricultural, forest, and pasture lands in north and south exposures were determined and the effects of different land use, exposure, and soil depth conditions on the enzyme activities were investigated. At the end of the study, it was determined that the catalase enzyme activity significantly differed by the land use and the highest level of catalase enzyme activity in both south and north exposures and at both depth levels was found in forest soils, whereas the lowest level of activity was found in agricultural lands in north exposure and pasture soils in south exposure.

Global climate change is seen as a process that will directly or indirectly affect living things and ecosystems all over the world. In this process, determining the changes in climate parameters and climate types in advance is of great importance in terms of the measures that can be taken and the preparation for the process. In this study, it is aimed to determine the changes that may be caused by global climate change in some climate parameters and climate types in Mersin, which is one of the important cities of our country. Within the scope of the study, the current status of temperature, precipitation and climate types (according to De Martone and Emberger climate classification) and RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5. It is aimed to compare the possible situations in 2050 and 2070 in the light of scenarios. The results of the study show that temperature, precipitation and climate types will change significantly throughout Mersin province. Today, the temperature varying between -0.4°C and 19°C will change between 4.9°C and 24°C throughout the province in 2070 according to the RCP 8.5 scenario, that is, there will be an increase of around 5°C in the temperature change interval, the precipitation regime will change, Climate types are predicted to shift towards arid climates. This situation shows that climate factors, one of the most important planning criteria, will change significantly in landscape planning studies. Since landscape planning studies continue their effects for many years, it is recommended to take this into consideration in order to make a healthy planning. The results of this study should be used in the planning studies for Mersin province.

Among the environmental pollution elements, one of the most important problems of the world today, air pollution and heavy metal pollution that have gradually increased after the industrial activities, are of significant importance. Heavy metals are not easily dissolved in nature. Moreover, they tend to bioaccumulate in living organisms, and some of them have a toxic or carcinogenic effect even at low concentrations. For this reason, it is crucial to monitor the heavy metal concentration in the air and monitor the changes. One of the efficient methods in observing the change of heavy metal concentrations in the air is the use of annual rings of trees as a biomonitor. The present study aimed to determine the annual change of Ni and Co concentrations, which are among the heavy metals related to traffic volume at most, in annual rings of Cedrus atlantica harvested in Kastamonu in late 2019. Within the scope of this study, the heavy metal concentrations in the inner and outer bark were compared to the heavy metal concentration in wood and the change of concentration in terms of direction was also analyzed. As a result of the present study, the highest concentrations in both heavy metals were found in the outer bark, whereas the transmission of metals within the wood was limited. It was found that Ni concentration significantly changed directionally in woods, and this change was related to the traffic volume. Thus, it was concluded that the annual rings of Cedrus atlantica were very suitable biomonitors to monitor Ni concentration change.
