Site and depth influence on coral reef structure and composition in Seribu Islands, Jakarta

Abstract: The coral reefs structure and composition are influenced by environmental condition and depth. Therefore, this study was conducted to find and examine the influence of site and depth on coral reef structures in Pramuka Island regions, Seribu Islands, located in the northern of Jakarta. The study was carried out from November to December 2016. The data was taken by Line Intercept Transect Method which is laid 20 meters x 3 replicated parallels with shoreline at the depth of 3 and 10 meters. The hard coral at th… Show more

“…Seribu Islands, a group of 110 islands located north of Jakarta with around 25 million inhabitants (Brinkhoff 2011), represents an ideal area to assess the relative effects of multiple stressors on coral reef ecosystems. Here, a marked inshore-offshore gradient in heavy metal pollution, nutrient input (Williams et al 2000;Cleary et al 2006), coral cover (Fahlevy et al 2017) and fish abundance (Fahlevy et al 2018) has been observed.…”

“…However, considering only one depth zone were surveyed, we expect more species will be found with further surveying. This is because the depth is affecting the coral cover and life form (Fahlevy et al, 2017). Previous studies were also recorded various corals as unspecified species, e.g., Acropora, Montipora, Porites, Favia, Favites, and Platygyra (Siringoringo et al, 2006;Hadi, 2013, 2015).…”

“…Pertumbuhan karang dipengaruhi oleh faktor lingkungan (Saptarini et al, 2017). Persentase tutupan karang keras berbeda antara dua kedalaman yang berbeda di mana perairan dangkal sebagian besar lebih tinggi daripada di perairan dalam (Fahlevy et al, 2017). Terumbu karang sangat terpengaruh oleh aktivitas manusia lokal seperti penangkapan ikan dan polusi.…”
