Jakarta bay and Seribu Islands reefs have been affected by anthropogenic activities which causing them degraded and low quality of the ecosystem. However, lack of study has been conducted to investigate the effect on reef fish population due to change in ecosystem quality. Therefore, this study was undertaken to analyze genetic diversity and population structure of Siganus fuscescens population against heavy metals (Pb, Cd, and Cu) concentration across Jakarta Bay and Seribu Islands environmental gradient. Genetic diversity and structuring of S. fuscescens populations were determined using partial sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase I. Monitoring of heavy metal was measured by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) shows highest concentration of heavy metal (Pb, Cd, and Cu) was observed in the southern of Seribu Islands, closest to Jakarta. However, the diversity of haplotype obtained from each location indicates a varied range between 0,1429 (Pramuka Island, located in the center) and 0,75 (Untung Jawa Island, located in the south). Linear regression test reveals that Cu elements had a moderate effect (R2 adjusted = 0.665) to the nucleotide diversity of the fish. The study shows some populations of S. fuscescens have been affected by heavy metal and could be an alarm to manage this artisanal targeted fish in the Seribu Islands.

Bangka Belitung Islands (Sumatra, Indonesia) has various coastal resources, e.g., coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangrove forests. However, the coral community has been threatened by anthropogenic activities, i.e., tin mining and illegal tin mining. Threatened species assessment is important for mitigation of coral losses and management. The ojective of the present study was to examine the status of Scleractinian corals in Bangka Belitung Islands, Indonesia. A line intercept transect was performed for the coral reef survey. Live and dead coral cover were recorded in the three locations. Corals species were identified following taxonomic revisions. The results showed that there were 142 species of Scleractinian corals recorded from Bangka Belitung Islands. Of these, 22 species are the new report from the areas of the the eastern part of Belitung Island. Family of Merulinidae, Acroporidae, and Poritidae were predominant group in this region. It is concluded that the condition of the coral reef ecosystem in the Belitung Islands is relatively good, but fair in Gaspar Strait and Bangka Island. Coral reefs are marine ecosystem that provide homes at less 25% of all marine species. In the last decade, the use of Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) methods for coral reef monitoring has gained increased popularity. This study aimed to monitoring of coral reef condition at Dua Island, Tikus Island, Belanda Island, and Dapur Island. This study used Coral Point Count with Excel extensions (CPCe) software, to increase the efficiency of coral reef monitoring efforts. Photo transects were conducted by scuba diving. Coral reef community image was capture for every 1m across 50m transect line. A total of 30 random point samples was selected for each photo frame. Multiple photo frame were combine and for each point coded according to the code of each category, biota, and substrate at the random point. The results showed that the condition of the coral reefs in Bengkulu was in the fair to good category, while the condition of the coral reefs in the Seribu Islands was in the poor to fair category. The most common coral genera found in Bengkulu are Porites and Pocillopora, while in the Seribu Islands are Porites and Acropora.
