“…For tinnitus and ear pain, a significant correlation was found when it was related to the beginning or a worsening of otological symptoms were concomitant with the onset or worsening of TMD, even when they were stress-related. Uemoto et al and Nichthauser et al found that the use of muscle-relaxant plates or flat and smooth occlusal appliances were effective in promoting the remission of TMD signs and symptoms and otological symptoms reported together with TMD 9,28 . Another type of therapy adopted was orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) applied by Felício et al where it was found that the group of TMD patients who received treatment with OMT presented decreased sensitivity upon palpation and articulation, as well as a decrease in TMD and otological symptoms, proving that this therapy acted positively on the orofacial and otological symptoms presented by patients 10 .…”

“…It can be said that combination therapy deserves more consideration 22 . The use of occlusal splints focuses on their non-invasive and reversible nature, i.e., there is a change of the patient's condition and occlusal dimensions providing a more physiological and functional position without the need for more invasive and irreversible procedures such as orthodontic treatment, occlusal adjustment, or surgery 13,23 .…”

“…Multifactorial diversity can lead to TMD, making it difficult to identify a single cause for the presence of ear complaints in a population with TMD 13 . In this context, the aim of this study is to verify the knowledge of primary health dentists about the interrelationship of temporomandibular disorders and tinnitus.…”

“…The multifactorial diversity that may lead to the onset of TMD makes it challenging to identify an association for the presence of otologic complains on a TMD population . The efficacy of TMD treatment on comorbid otologic symptoms is still controversial.…”
