In einer theoretischen Studie wurde geprüft, inwieweit die vielen Zielgrößen bzw. Optimierungskriterien geeignet sind, zur Berechnung der wirtschaftlich optimalen Abmessungen und Betriebsbedingungen des chemischen Reaktors herangezogen zu werden. Als das vorrangigste Optimierungskriterium wird die maximale Rendite oder kürzeste Amortisationszeit der gesamten Produktionsanlage gehalten. Unter gewissen Voraussetzungen führen auch technische Reaktoroptima z. B. das Reaktorvolumenminimum, das Umsatzmaximum usw. zum Renditemaximum der Gesamtanlage, womit drastische Rechenvereinfachungen verbunden sind.
