Single Sheet Tester With Variable Dimensions

Abstract: This paper presents a new concept of the single sheet tester (SST) with variable dimensions. First, the author points out standards specifying requirements for systems, that allow to determine the properties of soft magnetic materials. Then, the concept of the SST system and its calibration are described in detail. Calibration of the system was carried out both by performing additional measurements as well as by Finite Element Method (FEM) modeling and execution of numerical simulation. Using the described mea… Show more

“…For many years, designers of electric motors applied lamination characteristics obtained from catalogs or simple measurements performed using standard measuring systems, such as Epstein frame or single-sheet tester (single-strip tester) [1][2][3]. Sometimes ring cores were applied, although this is not a standard solution.…”

“…When testing the properties of magnetic materials subjected to a cutting process, two types of measuring systems are commonly used: the first using toroidal cores and the second using rectangular-shaped specimens. The authors of this paper used such a non-standard SST solution, which is described in detail in the literature [17]. The measuring system used can be adapted to the geometric sizes of the measured samples (within specified limits) and consists of the separate elements shown in Figure 1.…”

“…In terms of the seventh-order harmonic, relevant MC length could be obtained from (8) by assuming B p = B 0 , which is the saturated flux density for the material. Then, considering contributions from l m in each harmonic component, MC length under square waveforms l m,squ could be expressed as formula (16):…”

“…Gmyrek designed an SST with variable dimensions. By using the SST, measurements from the same sample twice at the same flux density could lead to the calculation of the magnetic voltage drop effectively, and field intensity could then be acquired [16]. However, the analysis of the variation of l m in SST is rarely focused, while SST is the most suitable for nanocrystalline alloy's measurement.…”
