Single photon emission computed tomography myocardial perfusion imaging in patients with moderate to severe psoriosissis

Abstract: Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disorder with an increased risk for coronary artery disease (CAD). This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the rate of myocardial ischaemia in patients with psoriasis subjected to myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). Material and methods:Twelve patients with moderate to severe psoriasis that had MPI were compared to 395 MPIs randomly retrieved from our MPIs pool data. All patients had a [ 99m Tc]tetrofosmin stress -rest single-photon emission computer tomograph… Show more

“…The same data acquisition parameters were used in all patients. A single-day protocol was used, with stress and rest images acquired in that order, approximately two hours apart [27,28]. Medical history information involved symptoms, classic risk factors for CAD like smoking behavior, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, obesity (considered if body mass index was greater than or equal to 30 kg/m 2 ), and family history of CAD, and previous history of diagnosed cardiovascular disease and other health problems such as neurological diseases, rheumatological diseases, mental diseases, etc.…”

“…A SSS score ≥ 4 was indicative of myocardial ischemia. Myocardial ischemia was considered mild if the SSS was between 4 and 8, moderate if the SSS was between 9 and 13, and of a high degree when SSS was over 13 [10].…”

“…We congratulate Sioka et al [1] for providing an excellent review of the use of single-photon emission computer tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) in patients with psoriasis. There was quite a little surprise that the images were reconstructed without the assistance of attenuation correction (AC).…”
