single-phase bidirectional AC-AC converter with H-bridge energy buffer for wireless power transfer applications

Abstract: This paper introduces a single-phase bidirectional AC-AC Matrix type converter for wireless power transfer (WPT) applications. The proposed converter converts mains 50 Hz alternating current (AC) directly to high frequency 85 kHz AC without an intermediate direct current (DC) conversion stage. A minimum cost realization of only two bidirectional AC switches comprised each of two semiconductor device and one gate drive signal is employed. The converter operation modes are quantum energy injection and circulatin… Show more

“…The bi-directional inductive WPTS is ideal in G2V and V2G operations. With authentic power-flow models for the analysis, researchers optimized bi-directional inductive WPTS and the EV and grid interaction performance [66][67][68]. The authors presented a harmonics-based theoretical power-flow model for bi-directional inductive WPTS charging and discharging of EVs in V2G applica-tions.…”

“…A cascaded H-bridge N-Level inverter uses a multi-carriers modulation system requiring (N -1) triangular carriers, all having the same frequency and amplitude. The triangular carriers are arranged vertically [32]. For a converter of N levels, the modulation index m is defined as m = To achieve better performance in the output signal, a modification is made to the multi-carrier technique, as shown in Figure 11.…”

“…Likewise known as wireless power transfer (WPT), wireless charging has attracted great interest for its convenience [4]. This system requires no plugs or cables and offers a lower risk of sparks in wet environments [4]. Many R&D centers, government organizations, and universities are currently running WPT research.…”

“…Also being created is the next generation electrical grid, which is referred to as the "smart grid." EVs are seen as a key component of this new power system, which includes renewable energy [2]- [4]. All of this has rekindled interest in and development of this mode of transportation.…”
