Single-fed broadband circularly polarized unidirectional antenna using folded plate with parasitic patch for universal UHF RFID readers

Abstract: This research proposes a simple economical broadband circularly polarized antenna for universal ultra‐high frequency (UHF) RF identification (RFID) readers. The antenna utilizes a folded plate, a two‐corner truncated parasitic patch, and a ground plane. The folded plate, which is fabricated from one single plate, consists of a two‐corner truncated main patch, a wall patch, and a feed line, where the main patch is perpendicular to the wall patch, which is in turn perpendicular to the feed line. The folded plate… Show more

“…Bandwidth enhancement of CP antennas can be achieved by using the coupling feed technology 7,8 , introducing a relatively thick low-dielectric constant substrate, 9 and adding resonant parasitic reflectors. 10,11 In recent years there are also many scholars working on new approaches for CP antenna bandwidth improvement. By using the low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC), the CP antenna with two patches stacked without air gap or foam layer has obtained a good performance.…”

“…Therefore it is indispensable to devise novel solutions for broadband QHAs. And the parasitic strip is an effective approach to broaden the bandwidth, [21][22][23] which will be used in this article for broadband QHA. In this communication, a broadband printed QHA using parasitic strip technique is presented.…”
