“…A comparison of BPTB and hamstring autografts found no significant difference in terms of patients’ satisfaction or clinical outcomes 27. Moreover, double-bundle reconstruction using hamstring autografts showed no clinical difference compared with the single-bundle technique in the middle-aged patient 29. However, second-look arthroscopy within 2 years of double-bundle ACL reconstruction showed significantly poorer synovial coverage of ACL grafts in patients older than 50 years compared with younger patients.…”

“…2,4,7,18 Few studies have evaluated outcomes after ACL reconstruction in patients 50 years and older. 3,9,13,22,29,30 Blyth et al 3 reported improved outcomes in patients older than 50 years after ACL reconstruction with a follow-up of 2 to 8 years. The Lysholm score improved from 63 to 93, Cincinnati score from 49 to 89, Tegner activity scale from 3.7 to 5.2, and the IKDC score was normal or nearly normal in 25 knees (81%).…”

“…Both the cutoff age for ACL reconstruction and the treatment of ACL tears in patients older than 50 years are controversial. While studies have investigated ACL reconstruction in patients older than 50, 3,9,13,30 to our knowledge no study has compared outcomes between a control group of young patients and patients aged 50 years and older. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes and failure rates in patients aged 20 to 30 years with those of patients aged 50 to 75 years at the time of primary ACL reconstruction.…”

“…Trials comparing osteoarthritis after double bundle versus single bundle ACL reconstruction are limited but increasing in number given the superior rotational control after double bundle reconstruction which may better restore knee rotational kinematics during functional activity [ 7 ]. However, Ventura et al [ 80 ] retrospectively compared 36 patients who underwent single bundle reconstruction to 14 patients who underwent double bundle reconstruction and reported no difference in the rate of radiological osteoarthritic changes at a mean of 4.4 years postoperatively. The results from Suomalainen et al [ 81 ] were similar in their prospective study of 90 patients at 5-year follow-up.…”
