Singapore Neonatal Resuscitation Guidelines 2021

Abstract: Neonatal resuscitation is a coordinated, team-based series of timed sequential steps that focuses on a transitional physiology to improve perinatal and neonatal outcomes. “…However, even if the comparison of neonatal complications with healthy newborns is somehow biased, the incidence of complications at birth is estimated as follows: about 10% of term newborns require stimulation to initiate breathing, 5% require positive pressure ventilation before spontaneous breathing, 2% require intubation for longer respiratory support, and 0.1% require cardiac compressions ( 25 , 26 ). About 15% to 20% of newborns require admission in neonatal intensive care units ( 26 , 27 ).…”

“…Survival of asphyxiated newborns after resuscitation may be affected by structural factors such as health care professional characteristics (year of experience, and previous training), availability of important equipment in the institution to give care as well as process factors such as the effective implementation of neonatal resuscitation procedure [ 29 , 38 , 39 ].…”
