Sindrome do canal carpeano: estudo eletroneuromiografico de 135 casos

Abstract: One hundred thirty five patients with carpal tunnel syndrome were studied trough electrophysiological techniques. Nerve sensory conductions, motor conductions and electromyography were performed in all patients and the results discussed. The authors call the attention for the technic of sensory conduction stimulating palma and picking up the potentials on the wrist as the most sensitive technic for the early detection of carpal tunnel syndrome.

“…Occupational medicine was the second most frequent specialty to refer patients to NCS-EMG in our study. Two other studies from Brazil have previously shown that most neurophysiological studies came from either orthopedists 9 and rheumatologists 15 , however, the proportion of patients referred by orthopedists was far greater in our study than in either of those. This finding probably reflects a local pattern of medical care, but may also suggest that the medical specialties preferentially dealing with CTS has been changing over time.…”
