Risk factors are understood to encompass "aspects of individual behavior or lifestyle, environmental exposure, hereditary or congenital characteristics that are associated with a health related condition". These are conditions that increase the chances of the child presenting speech-language disorders and that can be avoided, controlled, or treated. Risk is deined as the chance of a child exposed to certain factors (environmental or biological) to acquire or develop speech-language disorders. The objectives of the present study were: to identify the risk factors for speech-language disorders in children up to ive years of age and to verify the relationship between risk factors and speech-language diagnostic hypotheses. The aspects of being male gender, prematurity, shyness, being an only child or youngest child, presenting deleterious oral habits, having a family history of speechlanguage disorders, and use of licit or illicit drugs during pregnancy seem to be the factors that should draw the atention of the health professionals in child development.Therefore, the monitoring of children who have these risk factors should be performed in order to promote the necessary stimulation and the construction of healthy environments.Keywords: risk factors, language development, child development, language development disorders, speech disorders IntroductionSpeech therapy, as a communication science, has a broad perspective on health systems and services at the three levels of care (primary, secondary, and tertiary). Introduction Oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum, also referred to as Goldenhar syndrome, is a condition characterized by alterations involving the development of the structures of the first and second branchial arches. The abnormalities primarily affect the face, the eyes, the spine, and the ears, and the auricular abnormalities are associated with possible hearing loss. Objective To analyze the audiological findings of patients with oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum through liminal pure-tone audiometry and speech audiometry test. Methods Cross-sectional study conducted on 10 patients with oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum and clinical findings on at least two of the following areas: orocraniofacial, ocular, auricular, and vertebral. All patients underwent tonal and vocal hearing evaluations. Results Seven patients were male and three were female; all had ear abnormalities, and the right side was the most often affected. Conductive hearing loss was the most common (found in 10 ears), followed by sensorineural hearing loss (in five ears), with mixed hearing loss in only one ear. The impairment of the hearing loss ranged from mild to moderate, with one case of profound loss. Conclusions The results show a higher frequency of conductive hearing loss among individuals with the oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum phenotype, especially moderate loss affecting the right side. Furthermore, research in auditory thresholds in the oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum is important in speech therapy findings about the disease to facilitate early intervention for possible alterations.

Objetivo: Através de uma Revisão da Literatura, o trabalho busca consolidar informações sobre o desenvolvimento do sistema estomatognático, durante a vida intrauterina. Foram realizadas pesquisas sobre o tema abordado, nas seguintes bases de dados: Scielo, Medline; Bireme; Google Acadêmico e o PubMed, no intervalo de tempo de agosto de 2006 a junho de 2017. Livros publicados no mesmo período também foram consultados. Foram selecionados os artigos em português ou inglês, que contemplaram assuntos inerentes ao estudo. O desenvolvimento do sistema estomatognático acontece a partir do primeiro mês gestacional. A exposição materna a fatores de risco como infecções, traumatismos, desnutrição e consumo de drogas, pode deixar sequelas no feto, comprometendo estruturas e funções buco-dentais.
