Abstract:El síndrome de Down (SD) es el trastorno cromosómico descrito por John Langdon Down en 1866, el cual presenta un conjunto de características fenotípicas conocidas, asociadas a discapacidad intelectual. El niño con SD comúnmente presenta infecciones respiratorias recurrentes que pueden asociarse en algunos casos a cardiopatías congénitas, alteraciones gastrointestinales, neurológicas y hematológicas.
