Simultaneously enhancing the crystallization rate and fire retardancy of poly(lactic acid) by using a novel bifunctional additive trimethylamine phenylphosphonate

Abstract: Simultaneously regulating the crystallizing and combustion behaviors of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) will be conducive to its further development in the fields of electronic appliances, automotive and rail transit materials.

“…The PLA/BF-FeP composite showed no change in TSP. Studies are reported in the literature detecting an increase in TSP when phenyl phosphonate FRs are used due to the production of phosphorus free radicals acting in the gas phase. The efficacy of the developed FR coating is noteworthy, given its low loading on the fiber surface, as it successfully mitigated smoke production without compromising its FR capabilities. Consistent with the TGA and MP-AES results, the low FR loading on the fibers does not lead to an appreciable decrease in the mass loss attributable to char production.…”

“…However, esters work by reducing the prevalence of hydroxyl and carboxyl end groups within the chain through esterification with PLLA. 19 This process provides the additional benefit of inducing a plasticizing effect from the resultant byproducts, thereby promoting a more regular organization of the chain segments. 20 Another extensively studied category of organic NAs includes amides and hydrazides.…”

“…Based on previous research, [19][20][21] the flame retardant containing P C and P O structures possessed flame retardancy for PLA. Xu et al 22 prepared a DOPO-based flame retardant DOPO-NH 2 containing P C and P O groups.…”
