In view of the distribution of heavy metal pollutants in Xuanwu Lake after the comprehensive dredging, contents of Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb in 4 dominant submerged plants and their corresponding sediments in the lake and in surface water were determined, so as to reveal the pollution and distribution of the heavy metals in the system of sediments-submerged plants-water in Xuanwu Lake. Results showed that the average mass concentration of Cr and Ni in the surface water of Xuanwu Lake exceeded the national standard Grade II of the quality of surface water which were 1.79 and 1.56 times, respectively; The contents of Cd and Pd in sediments was respectively 3.31 and 1.17 times of the background value of Nanjing soil, and the North Lake, the contents of Mn, Ni, Zn, Cd and Pd in surface water and Cr, Ni, Zn, Cd and Pd in sediments were higher than other lake areas. The average value Igeo of each element was ranked by size as Cd > Pb > Zn > Cr > Cu > Mn > Ni, except that Cd was the slight pollution (Igeo value is 0.20–0.47), the other heavy metal elements were at a clean level. In the four submerged plants, Mn was significantly positively correlated with Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd (p < 0.01). Ni was significantly positively correlated with Cu, Zn and Cd. Cr in the submerged plants was significantly positively correlated with Cr and Ni in the surface water; The contents of Cd and Pd were significantly positively correlated with Pd and Cu in the surface water (p < 0.05).

Aim: Laser-activated irrigation (LAI) using pulsed erbium lasers has been studied with regard to canal cleaning, but its working mechanism remains poorly understood.This study sought to unravel the method of action of LAI and to assess its effect on bacterial biofilms in a root canal model, by means of high-speed imaging. Methodology:A root canal model consisting of dentine and glass walls was used.Visualization of the canal space during activation was achieved with a high-speed camera, capturing 20-s activation series at 50 000 frames per second. Recordings were made of canal models filled with water, models filled with water containing glass microspheres, and models with a biofilm (an undefined biofilm originating from oral samples, a 1-week-old Enterococcus faecalis biofilm or a 11-day-old multispecies biofilm) grown on the dentine walls. LAI parameters were 2940 nm, 15 Hz, 50 μs, 20 mJ and 400 μm conical tip held at orifice level. Quantitative (measurement of size, life time and timing of cavitation bubbles; velocity and amplitude of root canal content movement) and qualitative (descriptive) analysis of the intracanal events was performed using imaging software.Results: During the implosion of the primary bubble, smaller cavitation bubbles emerged throughout the entire canal. This process began in the coronal canal part and continued in the apical direction. Expansion of these bubbles was followed by an implosion, and this volumetric change over a time span of a few 100 μs resulted in a very rapid vertical movement of the canal content with a mean amplitude of 900 μm. The succession of these movements with every pulse, resulted in biofilm detachment from the root canal walls and the gradual displacement of fragments coronally, until their complete removal. The pattern of the biofilm removal was the same for all groups. LAI was able to remove biofilm from the root canal models. Conclusions:The hydrodynamic effect of LAI is based on the generation of small cavitation bubbles throughout the entire canal, far from the primary bubble. Scale deposition is the accumulation of various materials in the walls of transmission lines and unwanted parts in the oil and gas production system. It is a leading moot point in all transmission lines, tanks, and petroleum equipment. Scale deposition leads to drastic detrimental problems, reduced permeability, pressure and production losses, and direct financial losses due to the failure of some equipment. The accumulation of oil and gas leads to clogged pores and obstruction of fluid flow. Considering the passage of a two-phase flow, our study determines the thickness of the scale, and the flow regime is detected with the help of two Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) networks. First, the diagnostic system consisting of a dual-energy source, a steel pipe, and a NaI detector was implemented, using the Monte Carlo N Particle Code (MCNP). Subsequently, the received signals were processed, and properties were extracted using the wavelet transform technique. These features were considered as inputs of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model used to determine the type of flow regimes and predict the scale thickness. By accurately classifying the flow regimes and determining the scale inside the pipe, our proposed method provides a platform that could enhance many areas of the oil industry.
