Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer With Cooperative Relaying for Next-Generation Wireless Networks: A Review

Abstract: Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is an innovative technology employed for enhancing the energy sustainability of wireless devices with a limited life span. The idea of integrating WPT in wireless communication leads to the idea of Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) that transfers information and power to wireless devices simultaneously, thereby resulting in a drastic increase in spectral efficiency of the network. SWIPT aided Cooperative Relaying (CoR) has emerged as a new trend for Fift… Show more

“…The R-E tradeoff was determined by the appropriate resource management, i.e., information and energy allocation, and was essential and crucial for characterizing and understanding the fundamental performance of RIS-aided SWIPT systems [25]. In the closely related prior research, the optimization of the transmit beamforming as well as reflective beamforming was suggested to minimize the transmit power or to maximize the sum rate/or sum-power of the information/or energy receiver under certain harvested energy/or information rate constraint at the energy/or information receiver [26].…”

“…WPT has attracted lots of attention because of its mobility, convenience, and reliability. This innovative technology has increased the resilience and expanded the battery life of wireless Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices [67]. Their integration into wireless communications has led to the concept of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), which, in turn, improves the SE of the network.…”

“…Hence, the cooperative-NOMA (CNOMA) has been one of the most investigated topics, recently due to its ability to increase spectral efficiency, user fairness and expand network coverage [2]. On the other hand, to increase the energy efficiency and recharge the battery-limited devices, the energy harvesting (EH) in CNOMA has also received significant attention [3]. In literature, there are two major protocols in EH: power splitting (PS) and time switching (TS).…”
