Simultaneous templating of polymer nanocapsules and entrapped silver nanoparticles

Abstract: Nanorattles made of hollow polymer nanocapsules with entrapped silver nanoparticles were synthesized in one step by using lipid vesicles as templates. Free radical photoinitiator facilitated both polymerization within the bilayer and formation of metal nanoparticles in the aqueous core.

“…To expand the range of catalytic applications, we prepared Pt NRs by vesicle templated synthesis using acrylate monomers (Figure 2A,B; Figure S5, Supporting Information). The growth of Pt NPs was initiated simultaneously with the formation of the polymer shell of the nanocapsules, similarly to our previous report on the creation of silver nanorattles 8a. Dynamic light scattering data showed no effect of Pt ions on the formation of polymer shells (Figure S6, Supporting Information).…”

“…Pt NRs were prepared by a method similar to the liposome‐templated method described earlier for silver loaded nanocapsules 8a. In a typical experiment, t BMA (43 μL, 0.193 mmol), BMA (42 μL, 0.199 mmol), EGDMA (32 μL, 0.17 mmol), and DMPA, (1 mg, 3.9×10 −6 mol) were added to a solution of DMPC (0.4 mL, 160 mg, 0.236 mmol) in CHCl 3 .…”

“…The number of shells is determined by the number of coating layers. 31,32 However, almost all of the above preparation methods for capsules with multiple particles involve multistep processes. 27,28 In addition, double polymersomes containing several inner polymersomes were prepared using a microfluidic conjunction approach in which the inner material was not solid particles but vesicles.…”
