Simultaneous surgery for subcondylar fracture and prominent angle of the mandible

Abstract: We experienced a patient of subcondylar fracture who had a squared contour of the lower face with prominent angle of the mandible and masseter hypertrophy. Our patient was increasingly seeking esthetic improvement of the lower third of the face. But she did not want multi-stage operations. Thus, we decided and performed a one-stage mandibular angle ostectomy with fracture management. We have a stable and esthetic result simultaneously despite fractures of the fixation plates during follow-up period, so report … Show more

“…Consequently, maxillary sinus floor reconstruction is often necessary. Various bone‐grafting biological materials including autologous grafts, allogenic bones, and xenografts are routinely used in the clinic to aid bone formation for the sinus floor 4,5. Notwithstanding, immunogenicity, donor site morbidity, disease transmission, scarcity of donors, and high cost are typically associated with these graft materials.…”

“…Oral and maxillofacial trauma In the treatment of various facial bone injuries, such as condylar, zygoma fractures, and BTX injections has proven to be useful in assisting postoperative wound healing by weakening/relaxing muscles, thereby reducing displacing forces on the fracture ends and obtain good immobilization if rigid fixation is not possible [123][124][125][126]. It also helps in reducing the number of plates required for stabilizing the bones.…”

“…Recently, the most popular indication in public is the control of facial wrinkle [ 7 ]. In oral and maxillofacial surgery field, BTX injection is applied not only for cosmetic purposes such as glabella line correction, platysma band correction, or gummy smile but also for therapeutic indications such as masseteric or temporalis muscle hypertrophy [ 8 10 ], temporomandibular joint disorders [ 9 , 11 ], salivary gland secretory disorders (including sialorrhea, Frey syndrome) [ 12 ], hypertrophic scars [ 13 ], facial pains [ 14 ], and facial paralysis [ 15 , 16 ]. Especially in dental field, it had been reported that BTX improved painful symptoms as high as 90 % of temporomandibular joint disorders related to masticatory muscles [ 17 ].…”
