Simultaneous screening of 21 potential adulterants in dietary supplements for the treatment of prostate diseases using ultra‐performance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography‐electrospray ionization‐tandem mass spectrometry

Abstract: Reports of the number of adulteration cases using illegal therapeutic substances in dietary supplements have increased. In recent years, various dietary supplements are being distributed that exaggerate the efficacy of treatment for prostaterelated diseases. To develop the preemptive monitoring method, we selected 21 prostate-related therapeutic substances and optimized the simultaneous ultraperformance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry and pretrea… Show more

“…A way to improve quality control is through chromatographic fingerprints to identify adulterants in the herbal mixtures. The similarity between the fingerprints of the "standard" and the samples should be investigated based on chemometric techniques, resulting in the confirmation of the presence of the plant being considered and the possibility of other nutritional supplements [12,13]. Therefore, developing methodologies for the analysis of laxative plant species and their adulterants is important to ensure the safety and efficacy of these herbal products.…”
