“…18,20 Using planar images obtained before and after cholecystokinin-8 administration, the gallbladder ejection fraction was determined (Table 1). With the exception of subject 3, remarkably large and consistent ejection fractions were obtained.…”

“…A similar pattern has also been reported for hepatic bile acid secretion rate in studies involving a hepatic bile marker in addition to duodenal perfusion of intestinal recovery markers [94,95]. We have recently studied in detail the mechanism involved in these effects by using a gallbladder bile marker (99mTc HIDA) in addition to a hepatic bile marker (indocyanine green), and absorbable duodenal recovery markers (radiolabelled cholesterol and phospholipid) as well as a non-absorbable recovery marker (polyethylene glycol) [96,97]. These modifications enabled us to measure gallbladder motor function simultaneously with duodenal outputs and hepatic secretion rate for all three biliary lipids during an evening meal and subsequent overnight fasting.…”

“…33 arecent study conducted by Verma et al (2013) suggested the utility of real-time ultrasonogram in selecting patients with poor contractile (<40%) gallbladder for cholecystectomy. 34 Kalloo et al suggested that gallbladder ejection fraction cannot be used to diagnose sphincter of Oddi dysfunction before cholecystectomy since study had a sensitivity of 33%, a specificity of 63%, and a positive predictive value of 25% and regression analysis revealed a poor correlation between sphincter pressure and gallbladder ejection fraction 35 .…”
