Simultaneous Investigation of PEMFC Performance and Water Content at Different Flow Rates and Relative Humidities

Abstract: In order to prevent membrane dehydration and flooding in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), appropriate water management must be done. Therefore, accurate knowledge of the effects of various parameters on cell water content is needed. This knowledge helps to achieve optimum cell performance. The effects of both anode and cathode stoichiometry and relative humidity on single serpentine PEMFC performance and flow channel water content are surveyed experimentally. All tests conducted on transparent fuel… Show more

“…The membrane electrolyzer transfers polymer molecules containing water and protons and decomposes them into oxygen, protons, and electrons. The electrons leave the cell from an external circuit, combine with protons in the cathode, and release hydrogen [ 11 ]. The reactions in the cathode and anode of the polymer membrane electrolyzer are as follows: The anode The cathode The whole reaction

“…The rejection was calculated, and the oil content in the permeate was examined using the chemical oxygen demand test. Bozorgnezhad et al (2015a), Hasheminasab et al (2014 studied the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) as a renewable energy source and replacement for internal combustion engines. They believe characterizing and researching the two-phase flow phenomena of PEMFC as floods are essential to effective water management.…”

“…Heavy metals include mercury, arsenic, cadmium, lead, nickel, copper, iron, chrome, vanadium, and others with different boiling points [7,8]. Metal industries, electroplating, paint making, battery making, tanning, textile, paper making, and other similar industries are among sources of environmental pollution related to heavy metal emissions [9][10][11]. These cause pollution in the environment by disposing of and releasing elements such as cadmium, mercury, nickel, lead, chrome, copper, silver, and others.…”
