Simultaneous Electrochemical Detection of Dopamine, Ascorbic Acid and Uric Acid Using Copper-Phthalocyanine Functionalized MWCNTS

Abstract: Multiwalled carbon nanotububes functionalized with amino groups (MWCNT-NH 2) and further modified with copper-phthalocyaninetetrasulphonate (4β(SO 3 ) CuPc) were used for preparing a hybrid electrode [MWCNT-NH 2 /4β(SO 3 )CuPc/GC] using glassy carbon (GC) as a support. This hybrid electrode was tested for the detection of dopamine (DA) in the presence of ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA) in a PBS buffer solution at pH 6.8. The presence of the macrocyclic increased the resolution of the oxidation signals of… Show more

“…The opposite is true in schizophrenia where the activity of the dopaminergic neurons is increased due to abnormalities in their regulation. Furthermore, the development of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa has also been associated with altered dopaminergic activities 2 3 4 . Therefore, it is important to rapidly and accurately measure DA concentrations in biological fluids for clinical diagnosis.…”

“…As a result, the accuracy of its detection is very low in real sample analysis. The basal concentration of DA is 0.01–1 μM, while the concentration of AA and UA is 100–1000 times higher than that of DA, hence it is crucial to develop sensitive and selective methods for determination of DA 4 . A great contribution to disease diagnosis would be a development of electrochemical sensor that would measure DA at low levels of characteristic of living system (26–40 nmol L −1 ) 6 7 .…”

“…Electrochemical methods for its determination were recently reviewed , nevertheless many others were proposed since then . Many of these methods allow the determination of ascorbic acid in the presence of several other analytes, more commonly uric acid and dopamine since they are co‐existing in biological matrixes and they are oxidized at almost the same potential at traditional electrode materials. Other methods were demonstrated successfully for mixture of ascorbic acid with some drugs , especially acetaminophen or components regulating the physiological function of organisms .…”

“…Among the anionic electroactive species, the metallophthalocyanines are well known for their excellent catalytic properties for several reactions [37], with high chemical and thermal stability [38]. They have been used in electrochemical sensors to detect analytes such as serotonin [39], dissolved oxygen [40], nitric oxide [41], cysteine [42], nitrite [43], oxalic acid [44], ascorbic acid [45,46], uric acid [46], phenols [47], and more specifically the dopamine [36,45,46,48,49].…”
