Simultaneous Determination of Ten Active Components in 12 Chinese Piper Species by HPLC

Abstract: Piper is a genus that is recently valued for the treatment of central nervous system diseases. The major constituents, amides and lignans, are responsible for the antinociceptive and antidepressant activities. This study developed a RP-HPLC-UV method for the simultaneous determination of eight amides and two lignans in twelve different species of Piper. HPLC separation was accomplished on a C18 analytical column (5 μm, 250 mm × 4.6 mm, i.d.) with a gradient mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and water at … Show more

“…The dried stems of P. laetispicum (20 kg) were powdered and percolated with 95 % EtOH (Ethyl alcohol), and the solution was concentrated under reduced pressure to give crude extract (1510 g). The ethyl acetate extract (EAE-P) was obtained following the methods published by our group [ 9 ] [ 15 ]. The HPLC profile was the same with Xie et al [ 9 ].…”

“…Furthermore, this pretreatment outcome is more complicated by using TCM herbal formulations, because a formulation often consists of several different medicinal herbs. Herbal quality control consists of several aspects (Cai et al, 2011; Wang et al, 2011), and extraction pretreatment further complicated the quality control of TCM therapies.…”
