Simultaneous Determination of Pseudoephidrine HC1 (PSE) and Terfanidine (TER) from Formulations by Reversed-Phase Ion Pair High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC)

Abstract: A new simple, precise, rapid, and selective reversed-phase ion pair high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of pseudoephidrine (PSE) and terfanidine (TER) from tablets using 60:15:25 acetontrile:methanol:water (v/v) containing 2.9 g sodium lauryl sulfate/liter, pH adjusted to 3.1 using phosphoric acid as a mobile phase and C18 Spherisorb ODS 2 (3 microns, 5 cm x 4.6 mm i.d.) as stationary phase. Detection was carried out using a UV detector … Show more

“…The popularity of capillary electrophoretic methods continues to expand as do the number articles that deal with either experimental ( ) or validation ( ) issues. Other technique-related reviews have been concerned with flow injection analysis (), ion-selective electrodes ( , ), ESI and MALDI mass spectrometry (), scanning probe microscopy (), thermoanalytical methods (), the analysis of antibiotics by LC/MS (), and the characterization of polymorphs and solvates by vibrational spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ().…”

“…Several analytical techniques, including GC [15 -21] and HPLC [22,23] ion-pair HPLC [24 -26], and CE [27 -29], have been used for the determination of this drug in biological samples. However, GC methods involve a derivatization step and CE suffers from low sensitivity in terms of solute concentration compared to two other separation techniques.…”
