Simultaneous Determination of Phenolic Acids in Water Caltrop by HPLC-DAD

Abstract: Trapa natans L., or the water caltrop, a native plant of Romania, has not been researched in our country until recently. It has, however, been used for the treatment of the several diseases since ancient times. The objective of this work is to validate the HPLC method to detect and quantify the phenolic acids from Trapa natans L. specie. The HPLC-DAD method was validated for the analysis of 3-O-methylgallic, chlorogenic, caffeic, and ferulic acids in water caltrop roots, leaves, pulp, and hulls. The analysis w… Show more

“…aqueous extract. In the alcoholic and aqueous extract, the hydrophilic compounds are determined, and in the etheric one, the lipophilic compounds [14][15][16][17]. The three solutions are analyzed separately, using methods corresponding to the physicochemical properties of each group of active principles [18].…”

“…The extracts from Trapa bispinosa Roxb. shell contain many phenolic compounds, such as gallic acid, caffeic acid, naringin, and 1,2,3,4,6-pentagalacyl-β-D-glucose [ 4 , 5 , 6 ]. These phenolic compounds have specific physiological antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties [ 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ].…”
