The species, spatial-temporal distribution, sources, correlations with physiochemical factors, and the contamination of trace metals (Cu, Pb, Cd, and Zn) were investigated in a typical mariculture area of North China. The concentrations of three species of trace metals, including total dissolved, dissolved reactive, and dissolved inert, were obtained. The total dissolved concentrations of Cu, Pb, Cd, and Zn ranged within 1.75-8.08, 0.43-2.75, 0.07-0.29, and 2.58-30.28 µg/L, respectively. These ranges were measured over 5 months (March, May, July, September, and November) and their concentrations decreased in the following order: Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd. The concentrations of Cu, Pb, Cd, and Zn decreased from nearshore to offshore, showing a distinctly regional variation. All concentrations of trace metals over the whole mariculture area were lower than the grade-II seawater quality standard of China. The relationships between trace metals with micronutrient metal (Fe) and other environmental factors (i.e., temperature, chlorophyll a, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity) were studied in detail. Discharged industrial and aquaculture effluents, uptake by organisms, and atmospheric deposition were found to be possible sources of trace metals in the studied area. Sea current and physicochemical parameters were factors that possibly influenced the spatial-temporal distribution of trace metals.

Different species of trace heavy metals (HMs) in seawater samples were simultaneously analyzed by anodic stripping voltammetric method, an analytical technique that does not require sample pre-concentration or the addition of reagents. The effects of the crucial parameters, deposition potential and time, on the determination of HMs were investigated. Concentrations of the total dissolved, dissolved active, and dissolved inert HMs were obtained through different analysis processes. The three species of Cu, Pb, Cd and Zn in seawater samples collected in different locations across Sishili Bay, North Yellow Sea, China were studied. The relative concentration of the dissolved active Cu, Pb, Cd and Zn in the total dissolved concentrations is 59.0%, 69.6%, 87.3% and 84.1%, respectively. The concentrations of different HMs species in Sishili Bay could be affected by the discharged effluent, sea current, and uptake of marine organism.

This study was to optimize the determination of copper by adsorptive stripping voltammetry (AdSV) in the presence calcein. The independent factors that affect the response were: calcein concentration, pH, potential accumulation and time accumulation. The research design was used a central composite design (CCD) with 4 variables, 5 levels and 31 a combination of treatments. The first step of 2 k factorial design optimization is: to give the highest level of code values (+1.68), the lowest level (-1.68) and code (0) as the center point. Programs were used for statistical data processing, Minitab 17. The obtained optimum conditions for the determination of copper were: calcein concentration 0.11 mM, pH 6.8, potential accumulation -0.88 V and time accumulation 42.34 s. The RSD 0.74%, recovery 99.88%, the linear calibration graph for the concentration (0.2 -110.0) µg/L, and the detection limits 1.79 µg/L. This procedure was applied for the determination of copper in the fruit and vegetable samples with satisfactory results.
