Simultaneous Determination of Paracetamol, Acetyl Salicylic Acid, Mefenamic Acid and Cetirizine Dihydrochloride in the Pharmaceutical Dosage Form

Abstract: A simple, specific, accurate and economical isocratic reversed phase liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method was developed and subsequently validated for the determination of paracetamol, acetyl salicylic acid, mefenamic acid and cetirizine dihydrochloride. Separation was achieved with a Nucleodur 100 C-18 column having 250 x 4.6 mm i.d. with 5 µm particle size and disodium hydrogen phosphate buffer adjusted to pH 6.5 using diluted orthophosphoric acid and acetonitrile (60:40 v⁄v) as eluent at a constant flow … Show more

“…Capillary electrophoretic method has also been reported for simultaneous determination of Cetirizine dihydrochloride, Paracetamol and Phenylpropanolamine in tablets 18 . Similarly UV Spectrophotometric method 19,20 , HPLC method 21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29 , stability indicating HPLC method 30,31 , and some bioanalytical work by capillary electrophoresis 32 and HPLC 33 alone or in combination with other drugs is reported for Paracetamol.…”

“…The main analytical methods for the determination of PC, PZ, AS or CF are chromatographic analyses with different detectors [14][15][16][17]. These chromatographic methods are usually used for the detection of single or two analgesic-antipyretics drugs in pharmaceuticals [18][19][20][21]. Some chromatographic methods are found for the detection of AS or CF in different foods such as soft drinks, teas, fruits, vegetables, wines, spices, sauces and beverages [22][23][24].…”

“…Literature survey reveals some analytical methods are reported for simultaneous determination of paracetamol and cetirizine HCl by high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) with isocratic elution [ 10 , 12 - 14 ], with gradient HPLC method [ 15 - 17 ] and capillary zone electrophoresis [ 18 ], paracetamol and parabens by HPLC [ 19 , 20 ], and the one and only method for CTZ with parabens (other than PP) [ 21 ], however our extensive research discloses that till now no stability indicating isocratic HPLC method is available which can determine the four ingredients concomitantly, therefore an endeavor was made to develop a simple, sensitive and validated stability indicating RP-HPLC method using UV detection to determine PCM and CTZ along with its essential microbial preservatives in liquid dosage forms and physiological fluid. Present work deals with method development, method validation and forced degradation study of the ingredients.…”
