“…Qualitative and quantitative determination of herbal medicine is an important issue for the safety and efficacy of herbal medicine [3,29]. Some analytical studies have been conducted for the determination of the saponins of notoginseng [8,26]. However, almost all studies have focused on the root extract.…”

“…In this study, we analyzed the saponin composition of NGF. Compared with the root extract [8,26], the chemical composition of notoginseng flower has special aspects. In notoginseng root, the main constituents are notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rb1, Re and Rg1.…”

“…However, those studies on its anticancer properties focused largely on the crude extracts of P. notoginseng, 5,[7][8][9] and the saponins identified in the different crude extracts were fluctuant because of low purity. 5,[10][11][12] For this reason, much more research effort is needed to elucidate the antitumor profiles in a variety of cancer cell types and how P. notoginseng saponin extract (PNSE) influences cancer development and recurrence. It is also very necessary to evaluate the potential anticancer effect of a more purified saponin extract in order to understand the nature of PNSE contribution and its real application as a potential cancer chemopreventive agent.…”

“…In the extensive phytochemical and pharmacological studies on P. notoginseng, 56 dammarane-type saponins, the main bioactive components, have been isolated and characterized from the roots, leaves and flower buds (Wang et al, 2006a). The protopanaxadiol-type saponins (ginsenosides Rb 1 , Rb 2 , Rb 3 , Rc, F 2 and Rd, and notoginsenosides Fe and Fc) and protopanaxatriol-type saponins (ginsenosides Re, Rg 1 and Rh 1 , and notoginsenosides R 1 , R 2 and R 6 ) are considered to be the main active saponins in the flower bud of P. notoginseng, and the triterpene saponin fraction from flower buds has shown a protective effect on liver injury induced by D-galactosamine and lipopolysaccharide (Yoshikawa et al, 2003) and an enhanced anti-proliferation effect on 5-fluorouracil in human colorectal cancer cells (Wang et al, 2007).…”
