Simultaneous Determination of Five Components inAster tataricusby Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: A novel quantitative method using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry was developed for simultaneous determination of the important active constituents including shionone, luteolin, quercetin, kaempferol and ferulic acid in Aster tataricus from different habitats. The separation was performed on a C18 column with acidified aqueous acetonitrile gradients. Quantification of the analytes was achieved by the use of a hybrid quadrupole spectrometer. Mul… Show more

“…Luteolin and quercetin are also expectorants and antitussive drugs 10 . For example, kaempferol and quercetin have significant effects on inhibition of lipid peroxidation reactivity and immunoregulation, ferulic acid can scavenge free radicals, antibacterial and anti‐inflammatory 31 . Compared with Saline, ATE was significantly improved in bladder macroscopic evaluation and cell viability.…”

“…( Xu et al., 2013 ). Among them, the main active components of antitussive effect may be asterone, episorbitol, caffeoylquinic acids, astersaponins, aster peptides ( Yu et al., 2015 ), luteolin, and quercetin ( Yang et al., 2016 ). The antitussive effect of Asteris Radix et Rhizoma has been reported many times.…”

“…Although shionone is considered as the major active component and the quality marker of AT herb in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia , other components such as phenolic acids, flavonoids and coumarins with verified pharmacological activities are also abundant in AT . Even though relevant analytical methods for the study of AT exist, such as simultaneous determination of five components (shionone, luteolin, quercetin, kaempferol, and ferulic acid) by UHPLC–MS/MS , such ingredients alone cannot fully evaluate the quality of AT. Hence, it is absolutely necessary to establish a more comprehensive method to analyze multiple active components simultaneously for differentiating and classifying AT from different sources and with respect to various processing procedures.…”
