Simultaneous Determination of Droplet Size, pH Value and Concentration to Evaluate the Aging Behavior of Metalworking Fluids

Abstract: Metalworking fluids (MWFs) are widely used to cool and lubricate metal workpieces during processing to reduce heat and friction. Extending a MWF’s service life is of importance from both economical and ecological points of view. Knowledge about the effects of processing conditions on the aging behavior and reliable analytical procedures are required to properly characterize the aging phenomena. While so far no quantitative estimations of ageing effects on MWFs have been described in the literature other than u… Show more

“…Moreover, possible synergistic interactions between process factors are identified and provide detailed causal models for multiple process factors [ 17 , 32 , 33 , 34 ]. This approach has been used to study a wide range of chemical processes [ 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 ] and has also been successfully applied for the preparation of SNPs [ 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 ].…”

“…The effect of factors monomer:porogen ratio (p < 0.0001), toluene:cyclohexanol ratio (p < 0.0001) and the interaction effect between GMA:EDMA ratio and toluene:cyclohexanol ratio (p = 0.0049) are statistically significant. The linear term B (GMA:EDMA ratio) is only added to comply with model hierarchy [44]; since B is involved in an interaction effect it must be included in the model although by itself B was no statistically significant effect term. The lack of fit is non-significant with p > 0.05.…”

“…Thereby, the transesterification process was described by a robust and predictive response surface model. Such a DoEbased approach allows the optimization of a wide variety of processes according to numerous intended goals simultaneously, like optimal yield at minimal cost and minimal hazard risks at moderate experimental effort [14][15][16][17]. A series of widely used standard designs is available [18,19] and were already applied to biodiesel processing.…”
