Simultaneous Determination of Cinnarizine and Dimenhydrinate in Binary Mixture Using Chromatographic Methods

Abstract: Two accurate and sensitive chromatographic methods have been developed and validated for simultaneous determination of cinnarizine (CIN) and dimenhydrinate (DIM). The first method uses simultaneous quantitative thin layer chromatography (TLC) spectrodensitometric evaluation of them, using ethyl acetate:methylene chloride (8 : 2 by volume) as a mobile phase. Chromatograms are scanned at 254 nm. This method analyzes CIN in a concentration range of 0.5-6 µg per band with mean percentage recovery of 99.78 ± 1.001 … Show more

“…Published studies based on TLC determination of antihistamines (chlorpheniramine, deiphenidramine, hydroxyzine, meclizine, triprolidine, cinnarizine and cetirizine) in biological specimens are limited and rather old (Table ). TLC methods that detect specific antihistamines in pharmaceutical formulations, alone or in combination with other drugs, have also been described (Fusari et al , ; Argekar and Powar, ; Makhija and Vavia, ; Subramaniyan and Das, ; Czerwinska et al , ; Lamie and Monir, ).…”

“…In addition to its lower detection limit and wider linearity range relative to the reported ones. 30,31,35 Moreover, the developed method is greener when compared with the reported method. 30 On the other hand, using of the experimental design during the optimization of the developed method saved time, effort and money.…”

On the other hand, DMH and CIN were simultaneously assayed by spectrophotometric, 40,41 TLC-densitometric 42,43 and HPLC 43,44 methods. Moreover, a ternary mixture of DMH, CIN and DPP was analyzed by TLC-densitometric 45 and HPLC 45 methods.…”
