Simultaneous Determination of Beauvericin, Enniatins, and Fusaproliferin by High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract: A rapid, sensitive and inexpensive HPLC method for routine screening of beauvericin, fusaproliferin, and enniatin B(1), A(1), and B has been optimized. Detection limits were determined, ranging between 0. 5 and 3.6 ng according to the compound obtained after spiking samples with each mycotoxin at 10-56 microg/mL concentration range; recoveries averaging from 56 to 74% were obtained. LC-MS conditions for enniatin analyses by API electrospray technique were set up, this allowing a unique identification of three … Show more

“…The amount of beauvericin and fusaproliferin was determined by HPLC as previously described by Monti et al (33) and Munkvold et al (36), respectively. In brief, HPLC analyses were performed using LC-10AD pumps and a diode array detector from Shimadzu (Kyoto, Japan).…”

“…E3643) were purchased from Sigma Chemical Co. (St. Louis, Mo.). The enniatin mixture contained enniatin B (19%), enniatin B 1 (54%), enniatin A (3%), and enniatin A 1 (20%), as described by Monti et al (15). To extract beauvericin and enniatin, 10 g of each sample was ground and homogenized in a Ultraturrax model T25 basic from IKA Werke (Staufen, Germany) for 3 min at 13,500 rpm with 50 ml of methanol (HPLC grade).…”

“…Extracts were resuspended in 3 ml of methanol, prepurified once on a C 18 column (500 mg, 3 ml, 40 m) (Varian, Inc., Palo Alto, Calif.), concentrated to 1 ml, and filtered through an Acrodisk filter (pore size, 0.22 m) (Millipore, Jonezawa, Japan) before HPLC analysis. Beauvericin and enniatin (B, B 1 , and A 1 ) analyses were performed as described by Monti et al (15) with minor modifications. HPLC analyses were performed using LC-10AD pumps and a diode array detector from Shimadzu (Kyoto, Japan).…”

“…Some of the newer studies also point to the presence of other Fusarium toxins, for example deoxynivalenol (36), beauvericin (BEA), enniatins (ENNs), nivalenol (NIV), fusaroproliferin (FUS), and 3-acetyl-deoxynivalenol (3-AcDON) in environmental samples (37,38).…”
