Simultaneous Application of Combination of Three Surgical Techniques for Treatment of Gingival Recession: A Case Report

Abstract: The treatment of Miller class III gingival recession is considered a challenge in periodontal practice, and among the different techniques used, autogenous connective tissue graft has shown the most favorable results. In some cases, more than one procedure may be necessary. In this case report, we describe the simultaneous application of a combination of three techniques (the tunnel technique, a connective tissue graft and a laterally positioned flap) to treat a Miller class III gingival recession localized in… Show more

“…Ten patients were selected at the dental clinic of PUCPR who presented at least 2 teeth in different hemiarches with gingival recession of ≥2 mm and no loss of interproximal attachment, classified as RT1 according to Cairo et al [19,20] Patients with systemic disease and those who had detrimental oral habits were excluded from the study [21]. All the patients signed a form indicating that they provided free and informed consent; this form contained comprehensive information about this study.…”

“…The laterally positioned flap procedure has been evaluated in case reports, clinical experiments, and controlled clinical trials. Deliberador et al treated a series of challenging Class III recession type defects with simultaneous application of a combination of three procedures: the tunnel preparation, connective tissue graft, and laterally positioned flap. The laterally positioned flap plus subepithelial connective tissue graft was selected to increase the gingival thickness of some elements.…”
