“…sp. (="asakoae" sensu Jitklang et al, 2008); one species from Indonesia, S. (G.) gyorkosae Takaoka & Davies, 1996; and, one species from Nepal, S. (G.) nepalense Lewis, 1964(Chen & An 2003, Chen & Zhang 2004, Huang et al 2011, Lewis 1964, Takaoka 1979, Takaoka & Davies 1996, Takaoka & Srisuka 2009. The species, that was treated in Thailand as S. (G.) asakoae by Jitklang et al (2008), is regarded to be distinct from S. (G.) asakoae originally described from Peninsular Malaysia since there are differences in several morphological features between Thai and Peninsular Malaysian specimens, as noted in Jitklang et al (2008).…”

The number of black fly species of Thailand has again doubled from 40 to 82 during the first decade of the twenty-first century (Jitklang and Kuvangkadilok, 2007;Jitklang et al, 2008;Pramual and Tangkawanit, 2008;Takaoka, 2001;Takaoka and Choochote, 2004ac, 2005aj, 2006ad, 2007Takaoka et al, 2009Takaoka et al, , 2010aSrisuka, 2009, 2010a d). “…nov. is also distinguished from 10 of 12 known species of the asakoae species-group from other countries: Þve species from China, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) jianfengense An & Long, 1994, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) laoshanstum Ren, An & Kang, 1998, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) Takaoka, 1979, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) sp. (ϭ"metatarsale" sensu Takaoka 1979); one species from Thailand, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) chiangdaoense Takaoka & Srisuka, 2009; and one species from Indonesia, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) gyorkosae Takaoka & Davies, 1996, all of which have the stalk of the ventral pair of Þla-ments longer than the common basal stalk, which is short or medium-long (Chen and An 2003, Chen and Zhang 2004, Huang et al 2011, Takaoka 1979, Takaoka and Davies 1996, Takaoka and Srisuka 2009. Among the two remaining species of the same species-group, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) nepalense Lewis, 1964, which was described only from adult female and male specimens, differs from this new species by the color of the male hind tibia and basitarsus, which are yellow on the basal two-Þfths and on the basal three-tenths, respectively, and the male ventral plate with a ventral margin concave medially when viewed posteriorly (Lewis 1964).…”
