“…In addition, the availability of haptic simulators (ie, with tactile and directional feedback) has made it possible to track manual skill acquisition objectively. 41,42 Utilization of a curriculum-based approach with online didactics has been shown to enhance cognitive knowledge, manual dexterity, and clinical transferability of simulator-acquired skills for POCUS modalities such as TTE and TEE. 41,42 Despite the perceived benefits of online didactics and simulation, there may be some potential limitations of using this educational approach.…”

“…A curriculum combining web-based education, hands-on training, and simulation integrated early in the training of junior residents can lead to better proficiency in performing ultrasound-guided techniques compared with the traditional apprenticeship model. 36,41,42 Simulation Models Used in Training…”

“…Metrics such as path length have been studied in several contexts, 5 and evidence suggests they also may be applicable to TEE training. 6 Currently, training programs such as Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) or Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) have been using these metrics as a requirement for certification. Similar metrics may be used someday for TEE, since current certification is primarily knowledgebased.…”

“…24 HMA has been validated in ultrasound by Chin et al 22 in an assessment of peripheral nerve blockade on human volunteers; however, this study did not assess ultrasound imaging independently from procedural movements. Similarly, Matyal et al 25 assessed transesophageal echocardiography with the HMA technique, but this form of ultrasound is quite dissimilar to the FASTexamination, using entirely different techniques and tools. To date, no study has assessed HMA exclusively for ultrasound imaging skill using a conventional handheld probe.…”
