Simulations of ECRIS performance for different working materials

Abstract: Free parameters of Numerical Advanced Model of ECRIS (NAM-ECRIS) are selected such as to reproduce the experimental charge-state-distribution of the extracted argon ions for the DECRIS-PM source tuned to produce the maximized Ar8+ currents. Using these fixed parameters, we calculate the extracted currents for Kr, Xe and Bi ions in mix with oxygen, for Ca in mix with helium, and for pure O and He plasmas. Comparison is made with the experimental data, good correspondence is observed.

“…Positions of those ions that are lost at the extraction electrode are shown in Fig.12. Threearm pattern is always observed in experiments and had been reproduced already in our previous publications [2]. The main feature in the Fig.12 is a compact spot in the center of distribution and relatively intense strips along the star arms.…”

“…14 One of these techniques is the gas-mixing, [15][16][17] where a gas of lower mass is injected into the plasma populated with the gas of heavier mass. The gas-mixing yields substantial improvement in the intensity of highly charged ions, and the ion-cooling model 18 is believed to work behind it. So far, there exists no empirical formula that can accurately provide the mass of a suitable mixing gas for the main plasma.…”
