Simulational and experimental determination of the exploitation parameters of a screw conveyor

Abstract: The paper discusses the designing process of screw conveyors, with regard to the determination of the exploitation parameters of such devices with the use of the Discrete Element Method (DEM). The influence of the chosen model input parameters on the results of the simulations was examined. The key parameters which determine the exploitation characteristics of a screw conveyor were identified as follows: the size of a DEM particle, coefficients of internal and external friction. Experimental measurements of th… Show more

“…The compaction unit is a particularly important unit among the systems for pressurized agglomeration [ 54 , 61 , 66 ]. A very important element of a properly conducted agglomeration is effective preparation of the material and its dosing [ 67 , 68 ]. The briquette forming process takes place between two rollers, which rotate in mutually opposite directions and on the surfaces of which there are molding cavities distributed in a proper way [ 69 ].…”

“…In the case of materials with a fine-grained structure, including chips, in order to reuse them, it is preferable to give them the appropriate geometry [ 11 ]. It should, first of all, allow for their easy and economical transport [ 12 ], storage or dosing to processing devices [ 13 ], as well as ensuring appropriate process management in processing units [ 14 ]. One of the materials that as a waste from the machining process can rationally be reused are copper and copper alloys.…”

“…It consists of putting the material under pressure, causing the grains to be closer to one another, and forming diverse bonds to make the material stronger [ 18 ]. A very important element of a properly conducted agglomeration is effective preparation of the material [ 11 , 13 , 19 ] and its dosing [ 17 , 20 , 21 ]. The pressurized agglomeration process produces compact shapes with relatively low porosity and specific mechanical strength [ 6 , 12 , 18 ].…”
