Simulation studies of the coplanar electrode and other plasma display panel cell designs

Abstract: A two-dimensional self-consistent simulation model is used to study the effect of the geometric parameters on the operating voltages and ultraviolet (UV) efficiency of a coplanar-electrode plasma display panel cell. It is found that in the standard coplanar-electrode geometry there is a tradeoff between high UV efficiency and low operating voltages as the electrode gap, or the parameters of the upper dielectric are varied, while variation of the sustain electrode width has no significant effect on either the o… Show more

“…Rauf et al [9] used a two-dimensional hybrid model to investigate the operation of a coplanar-electrode PDP cell sustained in He/Ne/Xe gas mixture. Most of them [2][3][4][5][6] used fluid models and some of them used particle simulation [7,8]. The fluid simulations describe the plasma based on the density, mean velocity and mean energy of the constituent species.…”

“…Hagelaar et al [5] discussed the appropriate boundary conditions that must be used in fluid models by developing efficient and accurate numerical algorithms for PDP fluid code. Veronis and Inan [6] used a similar two-dimensional fluid model for a coplanar discharge to discuss the effect of introducing floating electrodes in the dielectric layer. Rauf et al [9] used a two-dimensional hybrid model to investigate the operation of a coplanar-electrode PDP cell sustained in He/Ne/Xe gas mixture.…”
