Simulation Parameter Calibration and Test of Typical Pear Varieties Based on Discrete Element Method

Abstract: To improve the accuracy of discrete element simulation parameters for the mechanized picking and collection of pears, the study calibrated the simulation parameters of pears by the method of combining a physical experiment and simulation. Based on the intrinsic parameters of four kinds of pears (Snow pears, Crisp pears, Huangguan pears and Qiuyue pears), their simulation models were constructed by the Hertz-Mindlin with a bonding model. The simulation parameters between pears and the contact material (PVC, EVA… Show more

“…When the external force on the particles is greater than the bonding force between the particles, the bonding bonds between the particles break down, resulting in the deformation of the pot and matrix loss. Consequently, the model selected to examine the forces between the pot particles and the pot damage processes was the Hertz-Mindlin with bonding model [28,29]. The fundamental particles of the model used for this work were spherical.…”

“…Simulation tests require the first step of building an accurate particle model. Ramie stalk phloem and xylem are nonspherical, and in DEM simulations, the multispherical method is usually used to construct irregular particle models [41][42][43][44]. In nonspherical particle discrete element simulations, the multichemical packing model has the advantages of fast calculation rate and simple contact judgment; however, as the number of filling particle elements increases, the simulation time will greatly increase, so the number of filling particle elements needs to be reasonable [45,46].…”

“…To date, many studies on the calibration of discrete element parameters have been conducted for different agricultural materials, including soil [8,9], grain seeds [10][11][12], crop straws [11,[13][14][15][16], and fruit and vegetables [17,18], amongst others. Qiu et al [9] used the Plackett-Burman design and response surface method to calibrate the discrete element simulation parameters of cinnamon soil based on the Hertz-Mindlin model with the JKR contact model.…”
