Simulation of properties of the transverse modal electric field of an infinite parabolic multimode fiber

Abstract: The visualization of the modal electric field for an infinite parabolic multimode fiber may not be immediately intuitive due to the intricate nature of the Laguerre function. To capture the essence of the various properties of the transverse modal electric field of the infinite parabolic multimode fiber, various simulations are drawn on and key observations are made. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “…where c = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is the mode index, L l m is the generalized Laguerre polynomial [56,57], m c ≥ 1 is the radial mode number for the c-th mode from the k-th SLM, l c is the azimuthal mode number of the c-th mode from the k-th SLM and ζ = z/z r is the reduced coordinates.…”

“…The five VCSELs are driven by separate pseudorandom bit sequence (PRBS) electrical signals. The excitation of LG modes [40] for each VCSEL array is given in Tables 1 and 2 to evaluate the effect of separation modes in the azimuthal and radial directions, respectively. Non-return-to-zero modulation scheme is used.…”
