Simulation of Particles Movement in Powder Mixed EDM

Abstract: The particles dispersed in gap can increase the discharge stability and reduce discharge energy density in powder mixed EDM, which effectively improve the surface quality of machined workpieces. Concentration and distribution of particles computed by finite element methods in working conditions were simulated and corresponding experiments were done. The activities of particles in the discharge process were analyzed by experiments and theories. The results show particles have group effect in the gap and that th… Show more

“…Radial pattern and a trace of the circular annulus at the edge of the machined surface were found by Wang and colleagues, 99,100 at 4 g/L concentration of Si powder in the dielectric while machining NAK-80 mold steel. All the negatively charged electrons collide with the positive charges present on the workpiece surface generating enormous amount of heat energy.…”

“…[52], or even three-phase flow including gas bubbles. Various authors analyzed the flushing conditions during ED processes using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approaches within commercial software, such as CFX [7,38,48,53,54] or Fluent [37,40,[55][56][57][58][59][60][61], both by ANSYS, INC., Canonsburg, PA, USA, but also COMSOL Multiphysics by COMSOL, INC., Burlington, VT, USA [35,[62][63][64][65], or STAR-CCM+ by SIEMENS INDUSTRY SOFTWARE INC., Plano, TX, USA [66]. The degrees of complexity of the RANS modeling approaches are equally crucial but quite different in the existing works.…”

“…Load plate coil is a important part of electrical energy converting magnetic field, to make the workpiece deformation. Its structure design directly influences on the quality of forming, forming efficiency, the coil lifetime [10,11]. When the device capacitance finalized, the frequency mainly is controlled by the inductance (L).…”
