Simulation of multi-domain energy systems based on the functional mock-up interface specification

Abstract: Novel concepts for energy systems increasingly focus on solutions that go beyond the scope of traditional engineering domains. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of appropriate modeling and simulation tools for applications in energy-related multidomain systems. However, well-established methods from other scientific and industrial areas provide promising approaches to overcome the associated challenges. This paper explores the applicability of the Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) specification within this c… Show more

“…Mapping between the domains allows for hierarchical interaction of different directors. Although Ptolemy has not been designed specifically Rather distributed: HLA, MECSYCO for co-simulation, a number of approaches employ it as a framework for energy domain co-simulation [43,42]. However, these setups typically use only one type of director and thus do not utilize Ptolemy's full potential.…”

“…On the other hand, it facilitates the participation of and interaction between experts from different domains, whose expertise is often closely linked to specific tools (thus satisfying KP3). This advantage has led to various research activities in many energy-related domains, e.g., buildings [13,14], power systems [15][16][17][18] and hybrid distribution networks [12,19].…”
