Simulation of Drying Characteristics of Evaporation from a Wet Particle in a Turbulent Pulsed Opposing Jet Contactor

Abstract: The motion and drying characteristics of a single particle in a novel two-dimensional pulsed opposing jet contactor (POJC) are modeled and discussed. Hot air is used as the drying medium. To simulate particle drying, the gas phase and dispersed phase conservation equations are considered in the Eulerian reference frame and the Lagrangian reference frame, respectively. The RNG turbulence model is used to determine the turbulent characteristics of the gas phase. The particle motion is described by the BBO (Basse… Show more

“…In addition, the relative strength of the various frequencies to each other changes with changing distance, indicating the changing modes of the jet. Recently, Hosseinalipour et al (2013), Yahyaee et al (2013) and Esmailpour et al (2015aEsmailpour et al ( , 2015b studied numerically the effect of flow pulsation on heat and mass transfer of impinging jets and the opposing jets configuration, using the RANS turbulence model. They investigated the effects of various parameters such as pulsation frequency and amplitude, excitation signal shape and the phase gap between jets.…”

“…Jet impingement over a moist protrusion was studied based on conjugate heat and mass exchange, enabling studies of jet height, protrusion size, and flow rate by De Bonis and Ruocco [18]. A single wet particle in a two-dimensional pulsed opposing jet contractor (POJC) was analyzed by Yahyaee et al [19], showing an increased drying performance with increased pulsation amplitude and increased jet Re. Moisture was furthermore included in the work by Bai et al [20], where effects of a moving plate were considered.…”

“…In other studies, phase difference between the nozzle exit velocity profiles and its potential to make the stagnation point oscillate between the two jets were investigated. This is so important in mixing behavior and drying . Kurnia and colleagues investigate the performance of impinging jet drying under various configurations .…”
