Simulation Model for Real-Time Emergency Vehicle Dispatching and Routing

Abstract: time emergency medical service vehicle response system that uses real-time travel time information and that assists the emergency vehicle dispatchers in assigning response vehicles and guiding those vehicles through noncongested routes is developed. Different response strategies are evaluated with this simulation model. These include the first-called, first-served strategy, the nearestorigin assignment strategy, and the flexible assignment strategy that uses real-time travel time information to assign and disp… Show more

“…Thirdly, the first responders are usually required to arrive within a certain time, which places great pressure on the EV drivers. Despite intensive research on EV routing [10,11], the travel time of ambulances depends heavily on the traffic situation. In some situations, ambulances themselves may cause traffic chaos and become victims [12].…”

“…An ambulance dispatch tool, produced by (Haghani, Hu, & Tian, 2003), includes a queuing system to prioritise more severe incidents, a relocation ability and real time traffic information. This approach is well suited for the ambulance dispatch problem but does not address the specific issues required by a police dispatch algorithm such as demand coverage.…”
