Simulation Development of Carrier based Pulse Width Modulation for Cascaded Multilevel Inverter

Abstract: Cascaded multilevel inverter (CMLI) is emerging as a new breed of power converter options for high-power applications. Various topologies and modulation strategies of this inverter has been proposed. In this paper, Matlab simulink of CMLI using Carrier Based Pulse Width Modulation (CBPWM) techniques is developed to get optimum design and performances. Some parameter of this Simulink model can be varied, so some interesting characteristics of the inverter can be optimized. A simulation result shows that the sys… Show more

“…This inherent advantage of the SPWM (which makes our design much simpler) justifies the selection of the SPWM as the switching strategy for the inverter. Along with this, the SPWM technique also has the following advantages: i) Inverter implemented using SPWM will have a constant switching frequency, ii) By choosing the modulation frequency (which is the ratio of the carrier frequency to the modulating waveform frequency) very high, the switching harmonics can be pushed to the high frequency side reducing the filter requirement less [9][10][11].…”

“…Initial one has the fewer number of capacitors than the other two and has matters like limitation to the reason of dependability, difficulty regarding DClink balancing and need extra clamping diodes (Balamurugan, Natarajan, & Bensraj, 2012;Ozdemir, Ozdemir, & Tolbert, 2009). Second one has the ladder arrangement of DC side capacitors whose voltages are dissimilar from each other (Sujanarko, Ashari, Purnomo, & Penangsang, 2010). It requires the highest number of capacitors and employs the sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (PWM) scheme for its modulation control (Balachandran, Senthilkumar, & Subramaniam, 2012a).…”

“…To beat this, the staggered inverter was worked to improve the yield voltage nature of the transformation. Staggered inverter yield has preferable voltage quality over inverter [5]. The voltage quality is shown by littler THD.…”
