Simulation-based site amplification model for shallow bedrock sites in Korea

Abstract: A new simulation-based site amplification model for shallow sites with thickness less than 30 m in Korea is developed. The site amplification model consists of linear and nonlinear components that are developed from one-dimensional linear and nonlinear site response analyses. A suite of measured shear wave velocity profiles is used to develop corresponding randomized profiles. A VS30 scaled linear amplification model and a model dependent on both VS30 and site period are developed. The proposed linear models c… Show more

“…One-dimensional equivalent linear (EQL) and nonlinear (NL) response analysis is performed using DEEPSOIL v7.0 [22] in this study. is program has been widely used in previous studies [7,16,[23][24][25][26]. One-dimensional site response analysis is the process of propagating shear waves numerically from the reference rock through the overlying soil layers to the surface.…”

“…One of the important causes of the structural damage caused by earthquakes is soil amplification. This is illustrated in damage assessments of buildings in the countries of Turkey [4][5][6], Greece [7], Iran [8], Mexico [9], Korea [10], Pakistan [11], and Nepal [12]. Numerous scholars have extensively researched the seismic resilience of engineering structures [13][14][15][16].…”

“…It can be used to calculate the other geotechnical parameters of soil such as the angle of internal friction, relative density, shear modulus, shear wave velocity, Poisson's ratio, and shear strength [7][8][9]. The geotechnical modeling of the construction site can ensure the safe execution of the project and enhancing its feasibility, planning, and design phase [10,11]. Preparation of the geotechnical maps and division into subsequent zones is helpful for the authorities and practitioners as it results in cost and time-saving in the construction projects.…”
