Simulation-based assessment of coupled frequency response of magneto-electro-elastic auxetic multifunctional structures subjected to various electromagnetic circuits

Abstract: This article deals with the modeling of magneto-electro-elastic auxetic structures and developing a methodology in COMSOL Multiphysics® to assess the free vibration response of such structures when subjected to various electromagnetic circuit conditions. The triple energy interaction between elastic, magnetic, and electric fields are established in the COMSOL Multiphysics® using structural mechanics and electromagnetic modules. The multiphase magneto-electro-elastic material with different percentages of piezo… Show more

“…Quan et al 54 analytically studied the nonlinear dynamic response of imperfect MEE plate with volume fraction equal of 1. Mahesh et al 55 studied the influence of auxeticity on the natural frequency of MEE cell structures. The effects of CNT reinforcement and micro-topological textures on the nonlinear responses of MEE plates have been reported in Mahesh and Harursampath.…”

“…32 However, finite-element methods (FEMs) are useful in investigating MEE structural responses due to a good trade-off between the computational effectiveness and the efforts involved. [33][34][35][36] Meanwhile, in contrast to the basic displacement models, the coupled field interactions of MEE structures are well captured by the higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and are more reliable. [37][38][39] The evaluation of coupled responses of MEE structures in the nonlinear regime is crucial and challenging, as they are mainly used for SHM.…”
