Simulating sticky particles: A Monte Carlo method to sample a stratification
Miranda Holmes-Cerfon
Abstract:Many problems in materials science and biology involve particles interacting with strong, short-ranged bonds, that can break and form on experimental timescales. Treating such bonds as constraints can significantly speed up sampling their equilibrium distribution, and there are several methods to sample subject to fixed constraints. We introduce a Monte Carlo method to handle the case when constraints can break and form. Abstractly, the method samples a probability distribution on a stratification: a collectio… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
