On‐site clinical training, which has been greatly hindered during the COVID‐19 pandemic, is essential in nursing practicum. This study aimed to identify the predictors of nursing students' motivational and self‐regulated learning in clinical nursing practicum during the pandemic. This cross‐sectional study aimed to identify the predictors of motivational and self‐regulated learning among nursing students in clinical nursing practicum during the COVID‐19 pandemic. An online survey was completed by 195 nursing students in Korea in 2021. Students' moral sensitivity and motivational and self‐regulated learning were assessed using the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis revealed that moral sensitivity was the most potent predictor of motivational and self‐regulated learning, followed by online clinical practicum experience, determination to become a nurse, and online practicum type; these factors explained 21.0% of the variance. Practicum courses using a tailored hybrid model, combining online and in‐person approaches for imparting nursing practices and inspiring moral sensitivity, can enhance nursing students' motivational and self‐regulated learning. Modules to enhance nursing students' moral sensitivity should be included in online practicum curricula.

In South Korea, in 2019, approximately 45.5% of newly-graduated nurses quit their jobs within one year of employment. To better understand the adjustment to nursing practice upon graduation, we developed an online communication skills training program based on nonviolent communication and evaluated its effectiveness. A quasi-experimental design was adopted. The sample included 28 participants in the experimental group and 27 in the control group after one participant in the control group dropped out. The participants were fourth-year nursing students at the K and S University in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, with some clinical training in a hospital setting. Data were analyzed using the χ2 test, Fisher’s exact test, and independent t-test. Participants’ empathy, communication skills, anger, and self-efficacy were assessed before and after the training, as well as across the two groups. The experimental group showed significantly higher levels of empathy, communication skills, and self-efficacy compared to the control group after the program completion. However, there were no significant differences in anger. This study suggests the effectiveness of the online version of the nonviolent communication training. Therefore, providing this program to nursing students scheduled for graduation may help retain newly-graduated nurses.

Background: This study was conducted to identify unmet needs through qualitative research on students who have experienced clinical practice and alternative practice that are suddenly limited to COVID-19 situations.Method: Qualitative research using focus group interviews involved five junior students with untact or limited clinical practice experience. Finding:The unmet needs of nursing students were analyzed as four categories based on "lack of various media and visual materials" and "need to strengthen self-directed learning capabilities." Conclusion:The results of this study suggested that nursing students who experienced untact or limited clinical practice experience are demanding education that utilizes various media and enhances self-directed learning, despite suffering from a lack of direct field experience and burden on tasks. Therefore, education programs should be developed to meet these needs.
